Santo Aleixo da Restauração is a Portuguese raiana village located in the municipality of Moura, sub-region of the Baixo Alentejo. In Santo Aleixo da Restauração are celebrated three religious festivals, being the Tomina Festival one of the largest on the east bank of the Guadiana River. History: War of the Restoration of Independence. During the War of the Restoration, Santo Aleixo was the scene of two major fights, the first on October 6,1641 and the second on August 12,1644, the latter being the largest, which caused more casualties on both sides and also the one that caused greater damage to the village. This last attack also earned Santo Aleixo the designation of heroic village and the change of its toponymy in the Diário da República to Santo Aleixo da Restauração in 1957. War of the Spanish Succession: On 31 May 1704, Santo Aleixo was the target of a siege by Spanish forces, which ruined the village, as part of the Portuguese involvement in the War of the Spanish Succession. Economy: The parish has as its economic base the agricultural activity. The secondary sector has a very small weight in the local economy, along with the tertiary sector, although this has a much higher expression. The main dynamizer of the parish economy is the Herdade da Contenda, municipal company responsible for the management of the Forest Perimeter of Contenda, which despite the socio-economic benefits it has for the parish generates a large loss to the Municipal Council of Moura, owner of the municipal company that manages the estate.
