Density: 126.5 inhabitants/km². Candelaria has a road that connects the Monasteries and Ponta Delgada. The main activity is agriculture. Candelaria is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and southwest and has a mountain range to the north and northwest. The existence of a very high rock throughout the length of Candelaria, makes the soil of this parish uneven with the waters of the sea, which explains the absence of beaches and a very jagged coast. The name of Candelaria was given to this place since its settlement, probably before the year 1500', half a century after the settlement of the island of São Miguel. The name Candelaria comes from great religiosity to the Virgin Of Our Lady of Candeias, who has always been orago in this church. Topographically, the parish of Candelária consists of outboats that are sometimes interrupted by valleys and a large number of grotas. Most of these grotas are grown or with yams or with orchards.
