Although their main function is centered on forestry, forest areas may also accommodate specific agricultural and tourism uses, provided they do not compromise forest functions, respect ecological and landscape integration, and are duly approved by the Municipal Council. Compatible uses include rural tourism enterprises (such as rural hotels, Madeira estates, and tourist villages), camping and caravan parks, as well as certain community facilities of local interest. Housing may only be admitted when integrated into tourism developments and not as independent new residential units.
